Day 24: Cookies! 30Nov2011

I made some molasses cookies for a cookie swap tomorrow. I almost added cumin instead of ginger, really glad I didn't! Here is one pre-cooked.

Day 23: Playground 29Nov2011

It was warm enough to go to the playground today, so T and I had some fun--her on the slide and me with my camera.

Day 22: Peace Downtown 28Nov2011

"May Peace Prevail On Earth"

Day 18: Happy Thanksgiving! 24Nov2011

I hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. This is a shot of the rice pudding I made, my Grandma Edna's recipe. It's not the holidays without it. And it disappeared so fast I only got one spoonful. That's the way it should be!

Day 17: Lazy 23Nov2011

Lazy more refers to me than T. I really wasn't in the picture taking mood and my camera was down in the car, so I snapped this one with my cellphone. Definitely not as high quality. I'll post some Thanksgiving pictures later today.

Day 13: Native American Wedding Vase 19Nov2011

Top view of the Native American wedding vase we got from Kris's grandparents as a wedding gift. Story behind the tradition of the vase here. Ours is strictly decorative and not ceremonial.

Day 12: Wicker 18Nov2011

Day 11: Rain Spout 17Nov2011

This is the rain spout outside our apartment. Not sure what caused the bubbles, but they do leave quite an interesting texture.

Day 10: Cemetery 16Nov2011

For our morning outing T and I went to the cemetery in town. It was a bit cold and windy so we didn't stay very long. Elizabeth's tombstone read, "Elizabeth, wife of J.C. Brown, Dau. of J.B. & R. Webster, Died May 8, 1876, Aged 23 years 10 mo. 1 dy"

Day 9: Lake Loveland 15Nov2011

Took a drive down to Lake Loveland today. This is a bench by a statue near the path around the lake. I had a couple pictures I really liked from this shoot, it was hard to choose.

Day 8: Sacred Heart 14Nov2011

Sacred Heart of Jesus at Blessed John XXIII.

Day 7: Through glass 12Nov2011

An amber glass hunk from my in-laws' front garden.

Heh. I guess I'm an abstract photographer, huh?

Day 6: Roses 12Nov2011

We are down in the Springs celebrating my father in law's birthday this weekend. This is a picture of roses reflected in the cake cutter on the counter.

Day 5: From a photography exercise 11Nov2011

I was searching the internet on ideas for neat photography ideas and I came across the idea to photograph food dye dispersing in a glass of water. They suggested using a flat vase or fish tank, but I did this with a regular glass. I think it translates better in black and white than in color (blue), which is good because this month is black and white month!

This might actually make a cool texture in Photoshop! I'll have to try it out.

Day 3: A walk downtown 09Nov2011

T and I went on a walk with Martha and her beautiful little daughter Margret in downtown Fort Collins today. We came across one of the many pianos that are a part of the Pianos About Town project, where artists paint old uprights that are placed around town for the public to use.

I've also decided that I will post black and white photography this month, maybe incorporating future themes in subsequent months.

Day 1: Restart! 07Nov2011

It's been almost a year since I started my 365 photo project, but somewhere around the time my thesis was due and defended, I lost my momentum and stopped after 6 months. I've decided to give it a new try this year.

I have changed a few things. First, I've switched over to Picasa since Blogger is run through Google anyway and TinyPic randomly deletes my photos for no reason I can see. Secondly, I've decided to limit myself to one photograph per post. Any other photographs from that day that I really want to share will be posted through Google+ and/or Facebook. Third (which is more awesome than a change), I have inherited my dad's Canon AE-1 complete with shoe flash that fits my DSLR and three lenses with sun hoods: 75-200mm, 28-70mm, and, most exciting to me, 50mm 1.8/f prime. Investment in an FD to EOS adapter soon to follow!

I also have a few goals for this year:

-Now that I have an external flash, I really want to learn how to use my lighting better. I've usually steered clear of using a flash because I dislike the shadows and flatness it can produce. However, I do know that as I learn to use it, external light can be my friend.

-I want to do more storytelling with my photographs. It is easy for me to find a photograph in my surroundings, but harder for me to make one and be intentional about it.

-Related to the last goal, I want to do more portraits. My new old 50mm portrait lens should help with that. Any willing and able models would be greatly appreciated.

-I will call Everyday Joe's and ask them if they have any wall space anytime soon so I can display and maybe even sell something.

And here is the picture for Day 1, a leaf on the neighboring basketball court. I added invert and gradient map adjustment layers.
